BEFORE & AFTER

BACKGROUND

As soon as we moved in during the summer of 2006 we’ve worked hard to reveal and to reinstate many of its original features. Thankfully all the original windows and door frames are still part  of this expansive and elegant house that is situated in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. The cellar retains the original brick flooring leading to 3 separate rooms once occupied by the servants of the house. The  original bell mechanism to call the servants is also in the cellar - but not working. The ground floor comprises of a large family lounge that contains the original grand fireplace, bay windows and wooden shutters

Living in a house that is over 150 years old is not only intoxicating  - it’s charming

The dining room is still used as a dining room but it does require some work to restore a fireplace and chimney breast. We are very proud of our new kitchen and downstairs toilet/shower. The first floor comprises of landing, a very large bathroom  and three bedrooms. The attic room is really a very large bedroom that also doubles as a playroom for the children. This is the part of the house does need some attention as it does get quite cold in the winter.

This house was built during a period when quality came before quantity. The victorians were regarded as the best engineers in the world ….

To the front of the house is an expansive lawned garden that is shared by our neighbours and accessed by a hidden footpath. We are very proud of our yard that contains traditional flagstones.
